Behavioral Data as an AI Foundation

How searches, product interactions and checkout activity create a foundation for commerce context.

The journey produces signals

A customer journey includes many small interactions. Search queries, product views, cart changes and checkout steps provide observations that orders alone cannot capture.

These observations can support reporting and future intelligent systems when their meaning is defined carefully. More collected events do not automatically mean better understanding.

Search
  → Product view
    → Add to cart
      → Checkout
        → Conversion / possible abandonment

This is an illustrative sequence. Real journeys can repeat steps, switch devices or end without a recorded outcome.

Define the event before using it

An event needs a clear name, a timestamp, appropriate identifiers and a documented meaning. A product impression and a deliberate product view should not silently share a definition. Duplicate delivery and out-of-order arrival also need an explicit handling strategy.

The following is an illustrative event envelope, not Rocento's published API contract:

{
  "event": "product_view",
  "occurred_at": "2026-09-15T10:00:00Z",
  "session_id": "example-session",
  "product_id": "example-product"
}

The smallest useful event is often preferable to collecting every available attribute. Identity, access, retention and consent choices need deliberate design appropriate to the deployment.

Abandonment is an interpretation

A cart without a completed order might represent interrupted browsing, a later purchase, or a decision made elsewhere. Calling it abandoned requires a defined observation window and knowledge of what the application can actually observe.

An abandonment prediction model adds further assumptions and requires separate evaluation. The presence of cart events does not establish a validated predictor.

Build context without losing boundaries

Historical behavior can be connected with product and order data for analysis. Current commerce decisions still need current facts. A customer's previous interest in an item does not establish current inventory or permission to purchase it.

Rocento treats behavioral events as part of the context foundation. Operational reports and bounded assistant capabilities are distinct from proposed future machine-learning models.

A careful path toward learning

Before introducing a predictive capability, define the decision it should support, inspect the available data, establish a baseline and evaluate failures. Keep the ability to explain where a signal came from and what it cannot tell you.

Recommendations, forecasting, intent and conversion prediction remain research directions for Rocento. No accuracy, revenue uplift or conversion claims are made.
